On Tuesday afternoon, November 7, 2017, James Andrew Brown, Jr., better known as “Jimmy”, peacefully finished his course in faith at his residence in Elberton. He was 68.

Jimmy was born in Elberton on January 15, 1949, son of the late James Andrew Brown Sr. and Rachel Amanda (Brown) Brown. He was a 1967 graduate of Elbert County High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. On November 4, 1967, he married his best friend and the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Taylor. Jimmy, along with his father, owned and operated Brown Shell Service Station on the corner of Tusten and Elbert Streets for many years. After that, he became an insurance agent and worked for Franklin Insurance Agency for 30 years. He was a dedicated member of Elberton Christian Church where he served as an Elder and was a member of the Messenger Sunday School Class and Bill Eaton Small Group. Jimmy was happiest when spending time with Liz and their beautiful family and traveling with their many friends.

Surviving are his devoted wife and caretaker, Liz; sons and their wives: Bruce Michael Brown and Tracy of Elberton and Brian Andrew Brown and Erin of Dublin; grandchildren: Michaela Allison Brown, Madison Renae Brown, Keaton Andrew Brown, and Tucker Walden Brown; sister, Sara Bertha Anderson; nephews: Barry Anderson and Vernon and Tina Anderson; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jimmy will be placed in state at Elberton Christian Church at 4 o’clock on Friday, November 10, where the family will receive friends from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock.

Funeral services celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 11 o’clock at Elberton Christian Church with the Revs. Bill Eaton, Byron Miller, and Jay Akin officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Paul Leigh and Mr. Mac Hughes officiating.

The family is at the residence, Villa 3 at Magnolia Estates.

To honor Jimmy’s love for the Elbert County Blue Devils and the University of Georgia Bulldogs, the family respectfully requests those attending visitation to wear white and blue and those attending the service to wear red and black.

Pallbearers will include Tommy Starrett, Frank Gurley, Ray Pless, Pete Dye, Sid Adams Wallace Edwards, Chuck Martin, Allen Lee, Jeff Hunt, Rock Evans, Darren Scarborough, and Allan Brown. Honorary pallbearers will include the Past and Present Elders and Deacons of Elberton Christian Church, ECC Messenger Sunday School Class, Bill Eaton Small Group, and Franklin Insurance Staff.
