Mr. Bennie Columbus Vickery, 94, of Vickery Lane NE, Elberton, widower of Frances Terrell Vickery, who he married August 4, 1936, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Vickery was born on October 24, 1916, in Hart County, son of the late James Edward Vickery and Lillie Lee Goldsmith Vickery. He was a retired carpenter, of the Baptist Faith, and the last surviving member of his immediate family. Left to cherish his memories include a daughter and son-in-law, Robbie Jo V. and Anglo Saxon; a son and daughter-in-law, James Steven and Martha Vickery; ten grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Vickery is preceded in death by a son, Bennie Ray Vickery; a grandson, Rodney Vickery; a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Adams; brothers, Thomas Isom Vickery, George Clark Vickery, and Walter Owen Vickery; sisters, Eddie Lee Dean, Mattie Louise Richardson, Nina Bell Smith, Mary Etta Elrod, and Cleo Gertrude Vickery. Graveside funeral services celebrating his life will be held Friday, August 26, at 11AM at New Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Carmichael officiating. The family will be at the home James and Martha Vickery, 2711 Vickery Lane NE, Elberton, and will receive friends from 10-10:45AM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Randall Vickery, Rex Vickery, Steve Vickery, Eric Vickery, Craig Vickery, and Terry Nicholson. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.berryfh.com.
