Bertha Lee Rice Echols

Mrs. Bertha Lee Rice Echols, 81, of Highway 172 W., Bowman, wife of 44 years to the late Jones William Echols, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospice House.

Mrs. Echols was born in Canon on September 27, 1939, daughter of the late Sam Jefferson Rice and Tommie Lou Smith Rice. She was a retired seamstress and spinner having retired from Candlewick Yarn in Royston and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Echols loved her grandchildren, animals, and traveling.

Survivors include her children: Tony Powers of Canon, Sam Powers of Dewy Rose, and Cassie Echols of Hartwell; siblings: Annie Lou Dickson of Royston, Martha Bennett of Franklin Springs, and James Rice of Canon; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, April 1, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Petty officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens North at a later date.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00pm. on Thursday prior to the service.
