Beverly Jean Cox Haws

Beverly Jean Cox Haws, age 71, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, in Mesquite, Texas, the place she had called home for the past twenty-six years.

Born in Torrance, California on October 28, 1951, Beverly moved with her family to Elberton, Georgia in 1968. She graduated from Elbert County High School with the class of 1969. Under the teachings of Willene Grant and Joan Jackson, Beverly successfully completed the nursing program at Elbert Memorial Hospital and received her credentials as a Licensed Practical Nursing/Licensed Vocational Nurse at the age of 19. During her career, she worked locally at Elbert Memorial Hospital, Nancy Hart Nursing Center, Spring Valley Nursing Center, and Brown Memorial Convalescent Center. Working in the emergency room, acute care, and as assistance director of nursing, Beverly’s passion was working in nursing homes.

In 1997, she moved to Mesquite, Texas and subsequently went on a blind date in the summer of 1998. This is where she met her husband, Keith. For the past 25 years, Beverly and Keith have made a lot of memories and shared their love with one another and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Wayne Cox and Dollie Florine Dickerson Cox; and sister, Bonnie Lynn Cox.

Survivors include her husband, Keith Haws of Mesquite, Texas; daughters: Missy and Shane Poss of Buchanan, Georgia and Kristie Capps of Elberton, Georgia; step children: Keith Haws of Commerce, Texas and Rebekah Haws of Lone Oak, Texas; sisters: Barbara and Darrell Moon and Brenda and George Willoughby, all of Elberton, Georgia; grandchildren: Braydon Capps, Seth Capps, Matthew Poss, Morgan Poss, Jacob Haws, and Lucas Haws; and four step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be hosted by the family on Saturday, April 29, at 2:00p.m. in the Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton, Georgia with the Rev. Dan Fernandez officiating.
