Mr. Bob Walters, 77, of Dickerson Road, Elberton, husband of 55 years to Carol Gunter Walters, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Athens Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Mr. Walters was born in Louisa, Kentucky on February 4, 1936, to the late Oliver Ashland Walters. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he retired after 20 years of service. Bob was also a truck driver for Star Granite Company and Hillcrest Granite Company, and a member of Northside Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Carol Gunter Walters of the home; sons and their wives, Mike and Kathy Walters and James and Jan Walters, all of Elberton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Quiroz of Yermo, California and Margaret Conn of Martin, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Walters. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Friday, January 10, at 4:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Reverend David McConnell officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum with Scott Gunter, Nathan Walters, Brian McIntosh, Daniel McIntosh, Dalton McIntosh and Gordon Hendry serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Challengers Sunday School Class. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force. The family is at the home and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Thursday evening.
