Bobbie Terry

Bobbie Terry passed away peacefully on February 26, 2019, just two weeks into her 88th year. Born Bobbie Jo Clark, her family nickname was “Bobbie Go”. We hope this last trip will be her greatest adventure.

She graduated from high school in 1948 and attended Tift College, then married her childhood sweetheart, Bobby Veal, and helped him build a successful granite business. With her second husband, Jack Terry, she enjoyed life in Pine Mountain, Pensacola and Helen.

She was the young mother of Margie, Janice and Allan Veal, and a trusted grownup to many other Elberton kids. She took her son and his pals to Atlanta Braves games and her daughters and their friends to movies and plays. She led a Girl Scout troop from Brownies to Seniors. She was President of the Little League in 1967 and accompanied a school bus full of 12-year-olds on a two-week trip to Niagara Falls. She practiced the 1960s School of Motherhood, otherwise known as go outside and play until supper! She was 4’11’’ but her children were almost grown before they realized she was small.

She loved books, cards, dogs and Jeopardy. She was quick with numbers and good with words. She enjoyed Little Theatre, winning Best Actress for the role of Granny in The Beverly Hillbillies at the age of 79. She made five trips to Europe to see her daughter. She was homemade peach ice cream in a Dixie cup eaten with a silver spoon. She was fun.

Her six grandchildren: Brandon, Adam, Elizabeth, Trent, Eva and Joseph, and two great-grandchildren: Avery and Ashton are all the more special for having known her.

For the past 13 years, she lived at Petersburg Towers where she had many true friends.

A memorial service will be held at Berry Funeral Home on Saturday, March 9, at 11AM. Everyone who knew her is welcome.
