Briar James Newsome, 15, of Eades Road, Carlton, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Briar was born in Athens on January 29, 1999, to Terry and Nita Carney Newsome. He was a ninth grade student at Oglethorpe County High School and attended Living Waters Holiness Church in Colbert. He loved hunting and fishing with his Dad as well as football and wrestling. Left to cherish his memories are his parents of the home; sisters: Brittany, Stephanie, and Allison; grandparents: Johnny and Diane Carney of Danielsville, Barbara King of Carlton, and Jerry King of Elberton; great-grandparents: Dorothy Carney and William Blum; and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by great-grandparents: Geneva Blum, Earl and Katie Hill, and James Carney. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, May 26, at 4:00p.m. at the Elberton First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby Baston and Janice Loggins officiating. Interment will follow in Glade Cemetery with Hunter Melton, Ian Bates, Dillion Nation, Duston Todd, Trevor Cruce, J.D. Rogers, Andrew Spooner, and Zack Bates honored as pallbearers. Briar will lie instate for one hour prior to the service at the church. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00p.m. on Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Briar James Newsome fund at any of the following banks: First Citizens Bank, Commercial Bank, or Pinnacle Bank.
