Chandler Brooks Barton

Mr. Chandler Brooks Barton, son of the late Herman and Thelma Barton, was born January 6, 1934 in Elberton, Georgia. He went home to be with the Lord on February 12th, 2017.

Chandler grew up in Elberton, Georgia and never forgot his childhood town where he was the high school quarterback for the Elberton Blue Devils. Those who got to know him certainly heard a few stories about Elberton, which claims the title "Granite Capital of the World." Chandler's tombstone is produced from this Elberton granite. Chandler graduated from the University of Georgia in 1958 (BBA) along side his Kappa Sig brothers. He remained a "Georgia Bulldog" for life and every fall Saturday he was tuned to Bulldogs football. At the University of Georgia, he met his future wife-to-be, Patricia Crymes.

After graduation, he spent ten years with Security Mortgage Corporation. In 1968, he left his post as Vice President and entered the real estate realm with his neighbor, Roy Ludwig. They co-founded Barton and Ludwig real estate brokerage company. Over the next ten years, Barton and Ludwig became one of the largest real estate companies in the Southeast. Around 1979, Coldwell Banker contacted him to express its interest in a southern expansion, and despite offers from other organizations, Chandler and Roy sold their company to Coldwell Banker. Impressed with Chandler, Coldwell Banker kept him in various executive positions. In 1989, he was named President and CEO. From 1989 to 1996, Chandler provided strong leadership, vision, and a highly effective managerial style, delivered by an engaging personality with his "Can Do" attitude. His spirit and commitment to business growth and strategy left a lasting impression on Coldwell Banker. Having climbed to the highest level in the corporate world, Chandler never abandoned his values of integrity, honesty, hard work, and love of family that he took from his childhood days in Elberton, GA.

Chandler was the definition of a Southern gentleman. He brought a smile to every face he met with his welcome smile, warm handshake or loving embrace, and generous doses of wit and humor. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife of 58 years, Patricia, and his children: Son, Curtis Barton and daughter-in-law, Carla, and grandchildren, Megan, Casey, Cole, Bryce, and Avery of Johns Creek, GA. Daughter, Lea (Barton) Mikosz, son-in-law, Mike Mikosz, and granddaughter, Sarah Mikosz of San Clemente, CA.
