Charlie Frank Nash

Charlie F. Nash, 92, born in Elbert County on October 9, 1919, and passed away at Elbert Memorial Hospital on March 25, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pope and Minnie Nash of Elberton; two sisters, Marie Harper and Lillian Nash of Elberton; and one brother, Rayford Nash of Elberton. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jimmie Cole Nash; two sisters, Vera Graham of Elberton and JoAnn Morton of Washington; one brother, Thomas Roy and Virginia Nash of Powder Springs; two children, Reppard and Cecile Nash of Valrico, Florida and Norma and Roy Rice of Elberton; three grandchildren, Laurie and Tony Cuva of Tampa, Florida, Chris and Amy Nash of Tampa, Florida, and Heather and Scot Yarbrough of McCormick, South Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Zoe, Zach, and Lainie Cuva, Eli and Charlie Nash, all of Tampa, Florida, and Ellie Rae Yarbrough of McCormick, South Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. After growing up on the farm in Elbert County, Mr. Nash joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the forests of Oregon. He is retired from the U.S. Army, serving in Panama, the 17th Airborne Division of the 3rd Army under General Patton in Europe in World War II, the 2nd Infantry Division, 8th Army in Korea, and in France in 1960-1961. He was the recipient of numerous campaign medals during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After retiring from the Army as a MSgt/E8 in 1961, he and his family returned to Elberton, where he was employed by Coggins Granite Company and later in the Voter Registration Office of Elbert County. He was a member of the Victory Sunday School Class and former Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Elberton. He was an active member of the community, supporting scouting troops and coaching little league teams in Elberton. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. Visitation will be at Berry Funeral Home on Monday, March 26, from 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 27, at 3PM at the First Baptist Church of Elberton with the Rev. Raymond Scott and the Rev. Ken Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with full military honors. The U.S. Army Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers and the Victory Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family is at the residence at 1245 Crestview Drive, Elberton.
