Clarence Hemond Hodgins, 83, of 1771 Hewell Road, Dewy Rose, husband of Ailene Kirkland Hodgins, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Hodgins was born in Franklin, North Carolina, February 12, 1928, son of the late Edgar Charles Hodgins and Arlee Tallent Hodgins. He was a retired logger/truck driver and of the Baptist Faith. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Ailene Kirkland Hodgins of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Larry Ledford of Hollywood, GA, Shirley and Ricky McConnell of Tiger, GA, and Barbara Kimsey of Franklin, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Irene Hodgins of Sylva, NC, and David and Elaine Hodgins of Otto, NC; four sisters, Vada Bell Murphy of Franklin, NC, Mildred Talent of Greenville, SC, Roma Neal Hodgins of Franklin, NC, and Joyce McMahan of Franklin, NC; five brothers, Bryson, Bryant, Johnny, Willie, and Jack Hodgins, all of Franklin, NC; ten grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one grandson, Brian Hodgins; and one son-in-law, Brad Kimsey. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11AM Friday, September 30, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home of Elberton, GA with the Rev. Bill Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery with Randy Stoutmire, Davy Hodgins, Johnny Ammons, Greg Ammons, Chas Hodgins, and Scott Goss serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Donnie Legyel, David Boyd, Joey Gilmore, and Ricky Oglesby. The family is at the home and will receive friends from 10-11AM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home. Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made in his honor to the charity of one's choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.berryfh.com.
