Mr. Calvin Curlyss Scoggins, 94, of 2252 Bowman Highway, Dewy Rose, husband of more than 50 years to the late Irene Mann Scoggins, died on Monday, October 20, 2014, at Elbert Memorial Hospital in Elberton. Born on September 29, 1920, he was the son of the late John D. and Vicie Smith Scoggins. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired store owner and mechanic, former employee of Monroe Auto Equipment in Hartwell and also worked in a saw mill, hauled lumber and had a stone-setting business. He sold pecans and figs grown on his trees at home. He enjoyed fishing. He and his family had a racing team that competed on area tracks in the 1970s and 80s. He and his wife served as foster parents for more than 15 years. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Marlow and Betty Scoggins of Dewy Rose, Glenn and Carolyn Scoggins of Colbert and Billy Ray and Sherry Scoggins of Dewy Rose; six grandchildren and spouses: Mike and Tina Scoggins and Terry and Jennifer Scoggins, all of Dewy Rose, Greg Scoggins of Colbert, Tina Hart of Hull, Shane and Angela Scoggins of Royston and Chad and Sheila Scoggins of Elberton; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joella Scoggins and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law: Mazelle & Isaac Evans, Cariene and John Emory Brown, and Dessie and Seymour Busby; brothers and sister-in-law: JV and Wilma Scoggins and Monroe Merlin Scoggins and grandson-in-law, Joey Hart. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Bailey officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family is at the home on Bowman Highway and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 1:00p.m. until the service hour on Thursday afternoon. Pallbearers will be Pierce Mize, Wayne Seymour, Julian Driver, Danny Smith, D.D. Shaw and Roger Scoggins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, P.O.
