Dallas Mae Mattox Fowler

Mrs. Dallas Mae Mattox Fowler, 84, of Hendricks Street, Bowman, wife of 67 years to Delbert Fowler, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at her residence. “Granny” fought a courageous battle with cancer and is now at peace and in the presence of her Lord, whom she so faithfully served.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Elbert County on November 15, 1932, daughter of the late Jessie James Mattox and Rosalie Wheelis Mattox. Her greatest desires in life were serving the Lord and her family and friends. She was a former member of Elberton Church of God and currently a member of Bowman Church of God. She served in various capacities at both churches including Sunday School teacher, secretary, and youth leader, and always participated in church fundraisers. She enjoyed visiting her neighbors and nursing homes, was often called the “world’s greatest prayer warrior”, and enjoyed working in her yard.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Delbert; children and their spouses: Kay and Jimmy Fortson of Sandy Cross, Elaine Dickerson of Bowman, Lynn and Randy Saxon of Dewy Rose, Ben Fowler, and Dennis and Angela Fowler of Bowman; grandchildren: Mischelle and Adrian Bishop, Shannon Fortson, Jason and Jenny Dickerson, Dawn and Shane Hart, Ashley Maxwell, and Drew Saxon; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Manuel and Patricia Mattox of Carlton; sister-in-law, Alene Mattox of Covington, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Mattox; and son-in-law, Billy Dickerson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, at 11 o’clock in the Bowman Church of God with the Revs. Stacy Lynch, Chester Edwards, and Sammy Cutshall officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Friday evening.

Contributions may be made in her memory to T.J. & Friends Foundation, PO Box 6161, Elberton, GA 30635 or to Smoky Mountain Children’s Home, 449 McCarn Circle, Sevierville, TN 37862.

Mrs. Fowler requested everyone attending the funeral service to please wear patriotic colors.
