David "Hunky" Brown

Mr. David Martin “Hunky” Brown, Sr., 62, of Old Middleton Road, Elberton, husband of 21 years to Pamela Albertson Brown, finished his course in faith and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 19, 2020, following a courageous battle with ALS.

David was born in Elberton on May 20, 1957, son of Joan Constantineau Brown and the late Donald McCarty Brown, Sr. He was a 1975 graduate of Elbert County High School and worked as a master carpenter for over 25 years and most recently as an appraiser having worked with Pinnacle Bank. David worked with the Elbert County Volunteer Fire Department and served as Captain of Pearl Mill Fire Station. He was an active member of Falling Creek Baptist Church where he was a member of Adult I Sunday School Class, served as head of the grounds committee, and served on the finance committee. David was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially duck hunting! Along with being a master carpenter, he was also a blacksmith and architecture restorationist. David started each day watching the sunrise and we truly believe this, along with his faith, is what kept him so positive during his journey.

Survivors include his wife, Pam of Elberton; mother, Joan of Elberton; children: Jessica Brown of Columbia, SC, David M. “Buck” Brown Jr., and his wife Arica of Bowman, and Keene Johnson and his wife Leah, U.S. Navy San Diego, CA; grandchildren: Connor Brown and Lukas Fry; siblings and their spouses: Mac and Jane Brown, Connie and Frank Worley of St. Simons Island, and Jenny and Jackson McConnell of Elberton; parents-in-law, W.D. and Theresa Ruff Albertson of Elberton; brother-in-law, Marc and Laura Albertson of Elberton; sister-in-law, Elisa and Dixon Collins of Danielsville; and nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to name.

Everyone is encouraged to express their condolences and love to the family during a drive-thru visitation on Friday, April 24, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 and in order to maintain social distancing as well as for the well-being of everyone, visitors will remain in their cars and speak to the family from there.

Those attending should enter the funeral home parking lot from the lower drive on Country Club Road where a member of our staff will direct you from there.

The Elbert County Volunteer Fire Department will be escorting their fallen brother, David M. “Hunky” Brown, Sr., to his final resting place on Saturday, April 25, 2020. The procession, which will leave Berry Funeral Home at approximately 1:20p.m., will travel Elbert Street and turn left onto Heard Street before arriving at the Elberton Square. Those wishing to honor David and his family for their many years of unparalleled service and dedication to Elberton and Elbert County are asked to line Heard Street by 1:20p.m. on Saturday. In order to maintain social distancing, Police Chief Mark Welsh has given permission for bystanders to park along Heard Street and we ask that you stand outside of your vehicle as the procession approaches. Following the procession, we appreciate you keeping the Brown family in your thoughts and prayers as they go forward with a private, family funeral service. A special thanks to Elbert County Fire Chief Rick Mewborn, Elberton Police Chief Mark Welsh, Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews, and all of the public service personnel involved to make this tribute possible.

Funeral services will be held privately at Falling Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 1020 Jack McVeigh Drive, Elberton, GA 30635, Friends Helping Friends, % Sandy Adams, 1027 Micliff Drive, Elberton, GA 30635, or to The ALS Association Georgia Chapter at http://web.alsa.org/site/TR/PersonalFund/NationalOffice?px=8457129&pg=personal&fr_id=10054#.XqDwPlNKiqQ
