Dewey Malcolm Bowers

Mr. Dewey ‘Malcolm’ Bowers, 68, of Sand Hill Road, Bowman, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Malcolm was born in Royston on February 17, 1953, son of the late Bunyan Gordon Bowers and Frances Inez Vollrath Bowers. He worked in the textile industry in Calhoun Falls, SC prior to becoming disabled, and was a 1972 graduate of Elbert County High School where he served as secretary of the FFA for two years. Malcolm was most proud of the fact that he gave his heart to Christ at the age of 12, and that he never drank alcohol or used drugs. He attended youth camp where he served as a chaperone and teacher for many years, and was awarded most dedicated under 25 years of age for his dedicated service. Malcolm led the choir and served as Superintendent at both Corinth Congregational Holiness Church. He was a Deacon at Bowman Church of God and was awarded a plaque thanking him for service as children’s church director for many years. Malcolm loved visiting nursing homes, cooking, and exploring his ancestry.

Survivors include his daughter, Rebekah Sarah Santiago and Hector of Bowman; grandchildren and the lights of his life: Jamie Preston Santiago and Dessie Lee Santiago, both of Bowman; siblings: Marie Mooney of Elberton, David Bowers and Tammy of Bowman, and Tim Bowers of Elberton; nieces: Melanie Henson and Whitney Mooney; nephew, Jackson Bowers; great-niece, Merci Grace Mooney; great-nephews: Colton Henson, Wyatt Henson, and Rhett Henson; and special friend, Michael Cooper.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Robert Mooney.

Memorial services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, August 19, at 11 o’clock at Deep Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service.

Malcolm requested, in lieu of flowers, that those desiring make contributions in his memory to a savings account at Pinnacle Bank for his grandchildren, Jamie and Dessie Santiago.
