Dewitt Jones

DeWitt Jones, 79, of 2194 Cammie Lane, Elberton, husband of Bobbie Stratton Jones, died Thursday afternoon, June 16, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Jones was born in Iva, South Carolina, July 6, 1931, son of the late Iber John Jones, Sr. and Sara Dean Jones. He was retired from the Maintenance Department at Michelin Tire Company, was a member of the Vans Creek Baptist Church, and a member and past officer of Woodmen of the World. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Bobbie Stratton Jones; children and their spouses, Charles "Buddy" and Virginia Case, Tim and Pat Case, all of Elberton, Gail C. and George Byrum of Hartwell, and Jan C. and Doug Mauldin of Auburn; siblings, Barbara Fields of Iva, SC, Billy Jones of Detroit, MI, Walter Jones of Starr, SC, and John Jones of Iva, SC; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Gladys Maness, Rossie Hewell, and Iber Jones, Jr. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 12noon Saturday, June 18, in the Vans Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home, 2194 Cammie Lane, Elberton, and will receive friends from 10-12Noon Saturday, just prior to the service at the church. Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made in his honor to the Vans Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
