Mr. Dora Ward Dye, loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, and friend to many, 80 years of age, of Elberton, GA entered into rest on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Dye was born in Elberton, GA, on July 17, 1940, the son of the late Floyd Seaborn Dye, Sr. and Ruby Inez Smith Dye. Upon graduation at Elbert County High School, he served in the United States Air Force, stationed at Clovis Air Force Base in Clovis, NM, where he was twice selected for the distinction of Airman of the Month. He was a talented aviation mechanic, specializing on the F-100 Super Sabre fighter jet. With the death of his father, he returned to Elberton, GA to care for his family. He served as a diesel mechanic for Harper Motor Lines and later Brown Transport. He eventually opened his own diesel shop, Dye’s Truck Repair, until he retired. Upon his retirement, he was an avid gardener, wood worker, and enjoyed his hobby of reading. He remained close friends with his Air Force buddies and enjoyed their fellowship. He was a long-time member of Falling Creek Baptist Church where he was an active member as long as his health permitted.

Survivors include his devoted and caring wife, Virginia Rousey Dye of Elberton, GA; son, Anthony Ward Dye of Gainesville, GA and daughter in-law Jennifer; daughter, Dr. Andrea Dye Daniel of Elberton, GA and son-in-law Sterling; and son, Darrell William Dye of Charleston, SC and daughter-in-law Laura. Grandchildren include: Kimberlyn Daniel, Anne Marie Dye, and Emmaline Grace Dye. Siblings are Sara McCannon of Elberton, GA, Esther Woodard of Jacksonville FL, Mary Anne McGee of Kingstree, SC and Dr. Linda Dye of Pensacola, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Floyd Dye Jr., Thomas Dye, Kathleen Griffith, and Betty Bond.

Visitation will be held at Berry Funeral Home on Friday, July 16, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services to be held at Falling Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, July 17, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dwight Morgan and Reverend Ric Veal officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Allen McCannon, Brian Vaughn, Donald Harris, Nathan Haynes, Luther Evans, Jimmy Barker, Freddie Walton, Forrest Daniel, and Pete Higginbotham.

Honorary pallbearers will include Vernon Norman, Jerry Oglesby, W.D. Albertson, Ronnie Brown, Pete Harris, Jerry Coffman, and Tommy Rousey.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 1020 Jack McVeigh Drive, Elberton, GA 30635 or to Elbert Memorial Hospital Foundation, 4 Medical Drive, Elberton, GA 30635.
