Mrs. Doris Morris Hyde Wheeler, 81, of Woodland Road, Elberton, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at her residence. She was twice married, first for 33 years to the late Earl Marshall Hyde and second for 20 years to the late Dr. Jack Adrian Wheeler, Sr.

Mrs. Wheeler was born in New Zion, Clarendon County, SC, on January 30, 1936, daughter of the late Harrison McCollum Morris and Janie Marie Barker Morris. She was the Salutatorian of her graduating class at Clarendon County High School and served as secretary at Elbert County Health Department for 34 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton and the church’s Lydia Sunday School Class. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Elberton and Trinity Presbyterian Church. “Grandmama”, a true southern lady, was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren, and cooking for others.

Survivors include her daughters: Janice Madden and Belinda Thomas and her husband Ronald; grandchildren: Kayla and Mike Turner, Matthew and Haley Madden, Ashlee and Garrett Johnson, Brooke and J.W. Haltom, and Marlee Thomas; six great-grandchildren; and siblings: Olin and Anne Morris, Don and Betty Morris, Roger and Della Morris, Linda and David Ross, and Dianne and Benjamin Stephens. She is also survived by Jack’s children: Mary Jo and Don Dye, Bob and Brenda Wheeler, and Jack, Jr. and Sheila Wheeler; his eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Russell Madden; and siblings: Mack Morris, Harry Morris, Wanna Elliott, Edward Morris, and Belle Mosley.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, May 6, at 11 o’clock from the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Jack McVeigh officiating.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service.
