Doris Opal Saxon Herring

Mrs. Doris Opal Saxon Herring, 70, of Nickville Road, Dewy Rose, wife of the late James Melvin Herring, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Doctor's Hospital in Augusta following injuries sustained in a house fire.

Mrs. Herring was born in Elbert County on February 3, 1946, to the late Omer Saxon and Mattie Lou Rousey Saxon Dickerson. She was of the Baptist faith and a retired beautician.

Survivors include her sons: Curtis Dwayne Lunceford and his wife Carol of Dewy Rose, with whom she had made her home for the past year, and Stanley Neal Lunceford of Hartwell; grandchildren: Brad and Lauren Lunceford, Josh and Sara Lunceford, Drew Lunceford, Tiffany and Josh Fisher, and Heather and John Sides; five great-grandchildren with one arriving in November; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her beloved son, Wesley Omer Herring; and siblings: Wadene Yarborough, Carey Saxon, and Archie Saxon. 

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, August 7, at 3 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
