Mrs. Edith DePalma Mills, 90, of Elberton, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, at Spring Valley Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Mills was born on February 11, 1930, in Mt. Airy, North Carolina to Venezia and Camillo DePalma. Her family moved to Elberton in the 1930s for her father and brothers to work in the granite industry. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers: Jappy DePalma, Guido DePalma, Silvio DePalma, Louis DePalma, Victor DePalma, Camillo DePalma, Jr., and Raymond DePalma; and sisters: Mary Combs and Dolly Fortson.

Mrs. Mills worked for the Elbert County School System in food services for 27 years at Falling Creek School. She enjoyed giving the children just a little “extra.” She also volunteered for many years at the The Salvation Army. She was a member of Eliam Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Tom Mills and daughter, Mary Nesa Mills. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Kim Lloyd of Ruston, Louisiana. She found her greatest joy through her grandchildren and great grandchildren: grandson and wife, Chris and Sarah Lloyd and their children Mills, Anna Clark, and Cullen of Alpharetta, Georgia, along with granddaughter and husband, Katie and Justin Dobson and their daughter Lulu of Woodstock, Georgia.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Glenn Poon, Magnolia Estates and Spring Valley Nursing Home for their compassion and care.

Edith will lie in state at Berry Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 9 from 10:00AM – 5:00PM for those who wish to pay their respects and sign her register book.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 10, at 1:00PM at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Social distancing and mask wearing is requested, and friends are encouraged to bring a chair.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Eliam Methodist Church c/o Ken Taylor, 1969 Rousey Road, Elberton, GA 30625 or The Salvation Army, 262 N. McIntosh Street, Elberton, GA 30635.

Pallbearers will be Tony Mills, Stan Mills, Galen Mills, Kenneth Brown, Kerry Lloyd and Ray Yeargin.
