Mr. Edsel "Slick" Pleasants, 90, of Rhodes Drive, Elberton, husband of the late Mary Jo Brown Pleasants, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Pleasants was born January 2, 1924, in Elberton, Georgia to the late Claude M. Pleasants and Estelle Dove Pleasants. Mr. Pleasants was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Elberton, as well as a member of the Elberton VFW, Rotary Club and was a Mason of the Philomathea Lodge #25. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a National Guardsman for a great number of years. Mr. Pleasants was a State Farm Insurance agent where he retired after 40 years of service. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Susan Fricks and her husband Jack of Elberton and Patti King and her husband Bobby of Vanna; grandchildren, Brandon and LeAnne King, Kristopher and Kelly King, Courtney Fricks, and Jay Fricks; two great-grandchildren, Baylor King and Anna Marie King. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel McCurley. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 11AM, Monday, February 24, at the First Presbyterian Church of Elberton with Reverend Gary Purvis and Reverend Boone Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with Mike Brown, Mark Brown, Barry Herring, Parks "Buddy" Brown and Bob Gomez serving as pallbearers. The family is at the home on Rhodes Drive and will receive friends from 6-8PM Sunday night at Berry Funeral Home. The family respectfully requests flowers be omitted.
