Mrs. Jimmie Elaine Cox Burdette, age 73 of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, December 24, 2018.

Elaine was born in Colquitt, Georgia on November 18, 1945, the daughter of the late Nelson Cox and Jimmie Williams Cox. She graduated from Miller County High School in 1963. Elaine attended Berry College originally and received a bachelors degree in early childhood education and master’s in education. Later she attended Piedmont College and received a specialist degree in education. She was employed with the State of Georgia, teaching school for thirty eight years prior to her retirement. Elaine was Baptist by faith.

She is survived by her husband of fifty one years, Charles M. Burdette, a Veteran of the Vietnam War, sons and daughters-in-law, Blaine and Sally Burdette, West Palm Beach, Florida, Chad and Shea Burdette, Chance Burdette, Charleston, South Carolina; siblings and spouses, Ray Cox and Angie, Wall, Mississippi, David and Linda Cox, Macon, Georgia, Patsy and Edward Truett, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Isaac "Moe" Cox, Gulf Port Mississippi, Bobby and Elaine Cox, Gulf Port, Mississippi, Tony Cox, Colquitt, Georgia; grandchildren, Arden Burdette, Reagan Burdette, Brooks Burdette and Jon Baylor Burdette all of Charleston, South Carolina.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Shelby Cox.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, December 28, 2018 at J. Collins Funeral Home, 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Israel Cox and Scott Williams officiating and Rev. Israel Cox to deliver the eulogy.

Interment will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the Georgia National Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. in Canton, Georgia with Keith Cox officiating. Those serving as pallbearers include Mac Cox, Joe Cox, Jimmy Wilson, Bob Wilcher, Stanley Lane and Keith Stewart.
