Mrs. Elizabeth June “Betty” Heywood Ebel, 91, of Athens, died Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Elberton.

Mrs. Ebel was born in Buffalo, NY on June 9, 1930, daughter of the late Ora Fred Heywood and Bertha Wade Heywood. She was a homemaker for most of her life, and worked as a secretary at Council of Aging for many years. Betty was a member of Alps Road Presbyterian Church and an avid traveler. She adored stray animals, and always fed and nurtured a stray when needed.

Survivors include her children: Wade Phillip Ebel (Kitty) of Athens, Trudy Alice Ebel Greenway (Dennis) of Elberton, Cheryl Elizabeth Ebel Jordan (Rodney) of Watkinsville, Glenn Scott Ebel (Teresa) of Watkinsville, and Clarissa Llyn Ebel of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn Ebel Herring (Waymond), Travis Wade Ebel (Katie), Stephanie Ann Greenway Scholl (Nathan), Jessica Marie Greenway Thompson (Mark), Thomas James Jordan, Katelin Elizabeth Greenway, Gavin Scott Ebel, and Logan Elizabeth Brown Ebel; and great-grandchildren: Joshua Wade Herring, Elizabeth Nicole Herring, Anslei Nicole Ebel, Ava Noelyn Ebel, Cooper Graham Ebel, Cole Howard Thompson, Hank Clemmons Thompson, Everett Alexander Scholl, and Truitt Ryan Scholl/

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Hughes Ebel; and son, Dale Edwin Ebel.

Memorial services celebrating her life will be held on Friday, February 11, at 3 o'clock at Alps Road Presbyterian Church in Athens. Her final resting place will be with her parents in the North Pembroke Cemetery in North Pembroke, NY.
