Elmer Carl Smith, Jr.

Mr. Elmer Carl Smith, Jr., 68, of Dearing and formerly of Bowman, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born in Elberton on October 23, 1953, son of the late Elmer Carl Smith, Sr. and Nettie Sue Rousey Stanley. He was a graduate of Harlem High School and a clerk having worked at IGA Market in Harlem. Elmer was of the Baptist faith and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved all of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own.

Survivors include his siblings: Wanda Webb of Bowman, Mark Smith of Grovetown, Cindy Poole of Dewy Rose, and Faye Poole of Bowman; special cousins who were like sisters: Lynne McTier, Jean Dove, and Anne Rousey Glasscock; nieces and nephews: Krystle Kurtz, Marcus Smith, Katie Smith, Ashley Poole, Jeremy Webb, and Brent Moon; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services celebrating Elmer’s life will be held on Friday, July 15, at 11 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Interment will follow in the Stinchcomb United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
