Gladys Fleming Allen

Mrs. Gladys Allen was born in Tignall, GA to the proud parents of Carl and Lula Bell Fleming. Mrs. Allen became a follower of Christ at a very young age. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Shady Grove Baptist Church of Tignall, GA where she served on the Mother Board for many years.

She married the late Jim Lewis Allen in 1943 and they made their home in Elberton, GA and to this union, they had four children.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs Lula Bell Fleming and father, Mr. Carl Fleming, daughter Rosa Lee Tate, son Fred Dennis Allen, two brothers, Frank Fleming, Carl Fleming, Jr. and five sisters, M. A. Allen, Rose Perrin, Frances Fleming, Emma J. Keller and Clara Bell McMillian.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: daughters, Mrs. Lucille(Huley)Mixon of Springfield Gardens, NY, and Ms. Genora Allen of Elberton, GA, grandchildren: Brian(Carlotta) Tate, Lithonia, GA, Kenwin(Tabitha) Harris, Elberton, GA, Tracey Jones, Rosedale, NY, Ricky Harris, Elberton, GA, Tabitha Allen, Elberton, GA, Dwayne(Stephanie)Tate, Snellville, GA, Durand(Xaviera) Tate, Atlanta, GA, Stephen(Tonya) Turman, Chattanooga, TN, and Andrew Mixon, Springfield Gardens, NY; two sisters Christine Thompson and Mildred Drake of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law: Joe Lewis Allen of Bowman, GA; two sister in-laws, Mrs. Lucille Allen and Mrs. Julia Mae Allen, both of Elberton, GA; a beloved cousin that was more like a sister, Mrs. Irene Leverett of Elberton, GA, and 24 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren , and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 2PM, Sunday, April 8 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Tignall, GA with Elder Stephen Turman officiating. Interment will follow in Carlton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Saturday night at Berry Funeral Home.
