Mrs. Gladys Cornelia Wall Callaway, age 99, of Elberton, was called home to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Spring Valley Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for more than three years. Mrs. Callaway was born in Elbert County on October 5, 1914, to the late Paul Walton Wall and Mattie Lou Harper Wall. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Otis Henry Callaway, Jr.; son-in-law, Bill Loftus; and brother, Harper Walton Wall. Mrs. Callaway owned and operated Callaway Grocery until 1973. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton, which she dearly loved and gladly served. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Callaway's long life was filled with so many of God's blessings. She considered her family and friends among her richest blessings. To hold dear to her memory are her children and their spouses, Peggy and Pat Milford of Carnesville, Bobby and Carol Callaway of Fayetteville, PA, Joan Loftus of Bel Air, MD, and Phyllis and Bob Lavender of Elberton. Mrs Callaway was lovingly known as "Mama Gladys" to ten grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, twenty-five step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. The family will greet friends on Sunday, November 24, from 1:00p.m.-2:30p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Elberton. Funeral services will follow at 3:00p.m. in the Church Sanctuary with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Mark Lavender, Brad Lavender, Frank Loftus, Larry Brown, Taylor Brown, Thomas Hartman, Pat Wall, and Wally Edwards honored as pallbearers.
