Grant Lon Case

Mr. Grant Lon Case, 70, of Acworth, GA, passed away on March 20, 2023.

Grant was born on July 22, 1952 to George and Bonnie (Mills) Case in Estherville, IA. After Grant graduated from Kingsley-Pearson High School in 1970, he went on to the University of Iowa where he met his best friend and wife Mary. After following his dream to be a radio disc jockey in Idabel and Shawnee, Oklahoma, they came home to Iowa where their two daughters were born while he worked with his family at the Knoxville Reminder. Eventually the family found themselves in their long term home in Acworth, Georgia, where Grant worked for the Marietta Daily Journal.

Known for his radio voice, Grant used his talents as a PA announcer for dirt tracks and amateur professional wrestling, as an actor/narrator for plays, and in a variety of church activities. He was the voice of Kennesaw State softball for almost 20 years and lent his voice to many other sports in his tenure there. He was inducted into KSU Softball’s Circle of Honor in 2019. He was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where he served in many ways including teaching Disciple Bible Study for decades, preaching on occasion, leading Sunday School, and facilitating the funeral meal committee.

Grant loved to make people smile by telling jokes or by encouraging you on your journey. His favorite way to make people smile was by baking. Called “The Cookie Man”, he would make hundreds of batches of cookies every year to deliver to all the people who he loved most. The Case’s Annual Cookiepalooza Party was one of the family’s favorite memories. He loved watching car races, sports, game shows and Hallmark movies. He loved a good murder mystery, pinball, sudoku, cornhole, a good debate, and musical theater.

Grant was so proud of his girls and grandchildren. He supported them, bragged on them, and encouraged them to the end. From bragging on Mary’s faithfulness to Sarah’s cooking and mothering to Emily’s preaching to Daphne’s brilliance to Jackson’s heart to Horace’s sweetness, To know Grant, was to know his girls and his grandkids.

Grant was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters Rev. Emily (Jay) Whiten, Sarah (Gino) DiGioia, his grandchildren Jackson Whiten, Daphne DiGioia, and Horace DiGioia, his sisters Diane (Mike) Evans, Michelle (Billy) Plendl, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. Andrew UMC (3455 Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30066) on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Beth Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Case’s church, St. Andrew UMC.
