Helen Aurelia Bowen Seymour

September 27, 1924 — December 7, 2022

Helen Aurelia Bowen Seymour

On Wednesday evening, December 7, 2022, Mrs. Aurelia Seymour, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home on Seymour Road in Bowman. Her final days were spent surrounded by her devoted family in the home that she and her husband of 68 years, the late Wilton White Seymour, built their lives in.

One of fourteen children, Helen Aurelia Bowen was born on September 27, 1924, in Dewy Rose to Pinckney Furman Bowen and Mary Ruth Acker Bowen. A graduate of Goldmine High School in Hart County, Aurelia learned the meaning of hard work at a young age as her family farmed cotton. This work ethic is something in which she carried with her throughout life as she worked in various textile mills and sewing plants.

As long as her health permitted, Mrs. Seymour was a devoted and faithful member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. She was a member of the church choir and taught children Sunday school for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and working in her yards. Above all, her family was her greatest accomplishment. She spent her life caring for and nourishing them, and created fond memories that will last for their lifetime.

Survivors include her sons: Denny Wayne Seymour, Sr. (Gail) and Ronald Anthony Seymour, Sr. (Kathy); grandchildren: Denny Seymour (Wendy), Donny Seymour (Kelly), Jackie Harris (Andy), Jenny Dickerson (Jason), Amanda Marunich (Scott), Misty Seymour, Ron Seymour (Megan), and Julie Wade; twenty one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her granddaughter-in-law, Donna Blackmon Seymour; one great-grandson; and siblings: Thamer Bowen, Frank Bowen, Joe Levis Bowen and his twin, Clifton Bowen, James Bowen, William Bowen, Gertha Gentry, Evelyn Winn, Roselle Pruitt, Hilda Olds, Mary Ann McCall, and Sarah Campbell.

Funeral services celebrating Mrs. Seymour’s life will be held at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, December 10, from the Rehoboth Baptist Church with Dr. Van Power and Rev. Darrell Gilmer officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery with grandsons and grandsons-in-law serving as pallbearers. Great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family may be contacted at the home and will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2 o’clock on Saturday.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Rehoboth Baptist Church or to Gideons International.
