Ms. Hilda Frances Smith Hammock, 66, of Slay Road, Elberton, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Ms. Hammock was born in Elbert County on July 30, 1948, to Louise Lovinggood Smith and the late J.A. Smith, Sr. She was a member of Fortsonia Baptist Church and a licensed insurance agent having worked for Lee Insurance for many years. Left to cherish her memories are her two sons: Michael Hammock of Elberton and Lee Hammock of Royston; mother, Louise Lovinggood Smith of Elberton; sister, Freida Moore of Elberton; three grandchildren: Brady, Kelsey, and Dawson; sister-in-law, Priscilla Smith of Elberton; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by two brothers: J.A. Smith, Jr. and Jimmy Smith. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, March 24, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Adams and the Rev. Al Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Fortsonia Community Cemetery with John Hitt, Sr., John Hitt, Jr., Chris Huff, Chris Smith, Donald Smith, Randal Fortson, David Bond, and Chuck Moore honored as pallbearers. The family is at the residence of Buck and Frieda Moore on Robinwood Lane and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 7:00-9:00p.m. on Monday evening.
