James Alvin "Jimmy" Faust

Mr. James Alvin “Jimmy” Faust, 93, of Lexington, Georgia passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at his residence.

Jimmy was born in Lexington, Georgia to parents Charles Witcher Faust and Louellen Landers Faust. He is predeceased by his parents and both siblings: Howard Percy Faust and Ernestine Faust Mathews.

Jimmy graduate from high school when there were only eleven grades. Subsequently, he signed up to serve in the Marines on his 16th birthday. He had a rather unique military career, in that he served in three additional military organizations after the Marines - the Navy, the Air Force, and the Army National Guard. In 1953, while serving in the Navy in Corpus Christi, Texas, Jimmy met and married Josephine Cascio, who was also serving in the Navy. During this time period, he also attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

Jimmy and Jo soon moved back to Lexington, Georgia where they established their family on the old homestead and reared five children there. Jimmy started his non-military career working for the Soil Conversation Services, and later worked many years at the Commercial Bank in Crawford, Georgia. In retirement, he served as the Oglethorpe County Road Superintendent for 91/2 years. During all his “outside” employment, he also maintained a farm — raising chickens, cattle, rabbits, starting a dairy, and gardening. He was never happier than when he was on his tractor mowing his pastures or plowing a garden.

Jimmy was a member of the Oglethorpe County Board of Education for 16 years. He loved his church, Bethany Baptist, in Lexington, Georgia, and was a long-time deacon and former Sunday School Superintendent. He loved to read and enjoyed keeping up with politics and current events. At the time of his passing, Jimmy was learning how to use a computer tablet - his mind was sharp to the end. Jimmy literally lived and experienced horse-and-buggy days to the computer age.

Jimmy is predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Josephine, who passed away in March, 2022. Our beloved “Boppie” is survived by five children: Kathy (Dennis) Daniel, Margie (David) Burt, Mary Ellen (Allen) Bridges, Gina (Brett) Meyen, and Charles Anthony (Kim) Faust; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Julie) Burt, Joseph (Chrissy) Bridges, Rachel (CJ) Weaver, Capt. Charles (Amber) Meyen, Jolie (Jared) May, and Cole Faust; and four great-grandchildren: Joie Burt, Nora Lou Weaver, JT Weaver, and Isabelle Bridges.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be held on Monday, January 16, at 2 o’clock at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or you may make donations in his memory to Bethany Baptist Church at PO Box 450, Lexington, GA 30648.
