James F. Creason, Sr.

Rev. James Frederick Creason, Sr., 89, of Cherokee Drive, Bowman, GA, finished his course in faith on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Rev. Creason was born on November 14, 1929, son of the late Charles David Creason and Mary Calor Creason. He served his country in the U.S. Army, and was forever a patriotic American. Rev. Creason earned both a Master’s and Specialist Degrees in Education from the University of Georgia as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Religion from Bob Jones University. Rev. Creason had a true servant’s heart which led him to a lifelong career in education. He influenced the lives of thousands of children through his work as a teacher at Green Acres Elementary in Smyrna and Sandy Cross Elementary, and as a principal at Canon Elementary and Bowman Elementary. In addition, he served as a missionary in Ethiopia and a bivocational pastor at Community Baptist, Shiloh Baptist, and Oak Grove Baptist, all in Madison County, and Pleasant Grove Baptist in Bowman. Mr. Creason was a member of Canon Baptist Church and a former member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church. He served the community of Bowman as Mayor for one term and worked to establish both the Bowman City Park and the Bowman Medical Center. Rev. Creason enjoyed playing church league softball, football, tennis, and over the past few years, was happiest while playing golf at Arrowhead Pointe.

James Creason had many titles in his lifetime, but his favorites were husband to the late Willie Mae Craven Creason; “Dad” to Dr. James F., Jr. and Pam Creason of Casper, WY, Rev. Paul L. and Debbie Creason of Bowman, GA, Cindi and Jeff Burden of Elberton, GA, and John T. and Tracie Creason of Lavonia, GA; “Grandaddy” to grandchildren and spouses: Jonathan and Asenath Creason, Andrew Creason, Tiffany and James Moss, Matthew and Hallie Burden, Aaron Creason, and Josiah Creason and great-grandchildren: Hallie Creason, Laikyn Moss, Sidney Creason, and Easton Moss.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Jack Creason, Floyd Creason, Bill Creason, and Ida Mae Holm.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, August 8, at 2 o’clock at Dewy Rose Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Creason, Dr. Phillip Burden, Rev. Paul Creason, Rev. John Creason, and Rev. Kennith Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens - SOUTH in Royston, GA with military honors by the U.S. Army.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Wednesday evening. Rev. Creason will be placed in the church at 1 o’clock on Thursday.
