James Jackson

February 17, 1939 — October 21, 2021

James Jackson

On February 17, 1939, in the rural community of Flatwoods in Elbert County, twin sons were born to the parentage of Willie Lee Burton and Carl Dubose, and their names were James and Johnny Dubose. The twins, along with their sister Mary Jane, were adopted by Felix Alexander Jackson, whom they loved as a father.

James joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Moses Biggs. He attended Blackwell High School and won the friendship of many. James was a hard worker and this lead him to be a carpenter. He could build anything. This led him to be a Southern Air where he was a floor mechanic. Even as an amputee, James continued to work, climbing ladders, and be a great carpenter.

James heard the Master’s Call on October 21, 2021, as he joined his wife, Sarah Rucker Jackson; parents, Carl Dubose, Willie Lee Burton Jackson, and Felix Alexander “Jabo” Jackson; siblings: Mary Jane Harper, George Allen Jackson, Georgia Mae Holland, Felix Jackson, Jr., Robert Lee Jackson, Willie Lorraine Addison, and his twin Johnny Jackson; and his children: Mike Fleming, Janie Cooper, and Maxine Gresham, all who rejoiced in his arrival.

James leaves to cherish his memories: his niece, Stacie Walton, with whom he resided; his children: ZeNobie Jackson, Mary Joyce Harper, Dorothy Bonds, Joann Fleming, George Fleming, Wayne Fleming, Brenda Fleming, and Belinda Fleming; his sisters: Shelia (Claude) Fortson and Bernice Wilkerson; a very dear companion, Mary Ella Fleming; special nephews: Statravious Jackson and Victor Mathis; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 28, at 1 o’clock at the Berry Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow in Lincoln Heights Cemetery.
