Doris “Jane” Davis Farmer was born on November 18, 1943, in Elberton, Georgia, and died on February 18, 2021, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, South Carolina, following a recent period of illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Maggie Marie Wells Davis and Obe Walker Davis Sr.; her husband: James C. “Jimmy” Farmer; her sister, Vivian Rebecca Davis Eavenson; and her brothers: Obe Walker Davis Jr., William Paul Davis, and Jackie “Jack” Wayne Davis.

She is survived by her sisters: Marjorie Frances Davis and Joyce Marie Davis; nieces: Devon Davis, Kam Davis Gast, and Donna Eavenson Nix; nephews: Jerry Glenn Eavenson, Dennis Alan Eavenson, Michael Irwin Davis, Ted Walker Davis, John Philip Davis, and Kethney Wells Davis; sister-in-law, Judy Davis; as well as a number of cousins, great nieces, great nephews, nephews-in-law, great nieces-in-law, and great nephews-in-law.

Jane Farmer was a teacher of American history and taught in the school system of Georgia: one year in Clark County in 1965-1966; and the major part of her career at Elbert County High School and the Elbert County Comprehensive High School, from 1966 to the year of her retirement in 1995. She spoke often of her equal love of American history and of all the students she taught throughout her career. In addition to teaching American history and serving as a department head, she also managed the ELCO credit union for a number of years until her retirement from that position in 2008.

She served as President of the Elbert County Historical Society for a number of years and in other capacities, as well, including that of Vice President and Board Member. For the Society, she wrote two books: Elbert County in Pictures and Elbert County in Pictures II and co-authored Elbert County in Pictures III with Joyce M. Davis. In addition to her service to the Society, she presented numerous historical lectures to various civic organizations.

Her funeral will be held at Berry Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Herman Glaze presiding and the benediction presented by the Reverend Douglas Huff.

Flowers are welcome, and the family will meet fellow mourners one hour before the funeral, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, at Berry Funeral Home.

Social distancing and face masks are encouraged.

Her remains will reside in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman, Georgia, next to those of her late husband James C. “Jimmy” Farmer.
