Jean Wilhite Mallard, 94, of 2071 Athens Highway, Elberton, died Monday morning, January 10, 2011, at the Elbert Memorial Hospital.Ms. Mallard was born in Elbert County, January 9, 1917, the eldest child of the late Linton Herschel, Sr. and Sallie Mae Anderson Wilhite. She was a graduate of Wilhite Academy in Elberton and was retired from the Georgia Department of Labor. She was a member of the Doves Creek Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Genealogy Association, and a life member of the VFW Post 5456 Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Douglas "Doug" and Lucille Wilhite of Elberton; sister-in-law and dear friend, Nola Woodall Wilhite of Elberton; brother-in-law, Cecil Burnside of Augusta; niece and her children, Robin W., Scott, & Kayla Bonds, all of Elberton; and a host of nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by brothers, Wallace "Dolly" Wilhite and Linton H. "Lin" Wilhite, Jr.; and sisters, Laura Frances "Fran" Gardner and Grace Burnside.Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held at 2PM Saturday, January 15, 2011, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Reverend Douglas Huff officiating. Burial will follow in the Doves Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family is at the home of Robin W. Bonds, 119 Lake Forest Drive, Elberton and will receive friends from 1-2PM Saturday prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home.Flowers will be graciously accepted and those wishing may make donations in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
