Jo Anne Johnson Childs

Mrs. Jo Anne Johnson Childs, 83, of Brad Dixon Road, Elberton, wife of 65 years to Thomas ‘Banks’ Childs, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Childs was born in Elberton on May 25, 1936, daughter of the late Samuel Alton Johnson and Estelle Tyner Johnson. She retired from West Point Stevens in Calhoun Falls after 32 years of service, and along with her husband, was a farmer. Jo Anne was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her only son and the light of her life, Joseph Banks “Joey” Childs, on February 25, 2019.

Survivors include her husband, Banks; grandson, Samuel Edgar “Sammy” Childs; and daughter-in-law, Denise Josephine Saxon Childs, all of Elberton.

In addition to her parents and son, she is preceded in death by her sisters: Minnie Lee J. Franklin Faulkner and Margaret Elizabeth J. Nelms.

The family will receive friends at Woodlawn United Methodist Church on Friday, November 22, from 10-10:45a.m. Funeral services celebrating her life will follow in the church at 11 o’clock with the Rev. John Moore officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family is at the home.
