Joel Adams Stowers

Joel Adams Stowers, 87, of Athens, GA. died Sunday, January 19, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Clara Adams Stowers and Stevenson Adlai Stowers of Elberton, GA. He was also preceded in death by both sisters and both brothers. Mr. Stowers is survived by his wife, Anne Forbus Stowers, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joel graduated from Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University). He also received a Master’s Degree from Emory University School of Library Science, and later held the position as Director of the University of Tennessee Library at Martin, TN. After 29 years, he retired in 1999 and they moved to Athens, GA. During all these years, he has continued to share his love of playing the piano by providing music in churches and nursing homes in the area.

Visitation will be at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, 4355 Lexington Road, on Tuesday, January 21st from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service is planned for Athens First Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 22 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Coldwater Methodist Church Cemetery, Elberton, GA.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Athens First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Coldwater Methodist Church Cemetery, Elberton.
