Joey Childs

Mr. Joseph Banks “Joey” Childs, 63, of Flatwoods Road, Elberton, husband of 33 years to Denise Josephine Saxon Childs, finished his course in faith on Monday, February 25, 2019, at his residence.

Joey was born in Elbert County on August 26, 1955, the only child of Thomas Banks Childs and Joanne Johnson Childs. He was a special education teacher currently teaching at Hart County Middle School and previously teaching at Greene County Middle School. Joey was a Methodist by faith, a farmer who enjoyed cutting hay, a collector of toy cars, and an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.

Survivors include his wife, Denise; son, Samuel Edgar “Sammy” Childs; and parents, Banks and Joanne Childs, all of Elberton.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 3 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Mize officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn United Methodist Church cemetery with Monty Dixon, Brent Dixon, Cecil Oakley, Jr., Brian York, Scott Benefield, and Tommy Hughes honored as pallbearers.

The family at at the residence in the Flatwoods Community and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00p.m. on Friday, March 1.

Flowers will be accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to the Hart County Middle School Special Education Department, 176 Powell Road, Hartwell, Georgia 30643.
