John Henry Taylor

Mr. John Henry Taylor, 90, of Chamblee, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Phoenix of Tucker.

A native of the Rock Branch Community of Elberton, John was born on December 9, 1928, the only son of the late Steven Olin Taylor and Bessie Cornelia Turner Taylor. He was a graduate of Rock Branch High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Taylor retired from General Motors as supervisor of the Paint Department after 25 years of service. John was a member of Northwood United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masons, Shriners, and a former member of New Bethel United Methodist Church. He was an avid craftsman who enjoyed building birdhouses.

John married Angelina Giannoni on August 13, 1960, and they enjoyed 43 years of marriage prior to her death on August 26, 2003. On October 12, 1963, they were blessed with their only child, John Craig Taylor, and he passed away on November 23, 1984. He is also preceded in death by his sisters and their husbands: Frances and Foster Goolsby and Tommie and Winford Gaines; nephews: Jimmy Goolsby and Phillip Gaines; and great-nephew, Bud McCall.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Max Poole; nieces and nephews: Jane and Tom McCall, Robert “Bobby” Poole and Tracey Edwards, Jeffrey Poole, and Susan Wingate; and great-nieces and nephews: Leisa Jones, Michael Wingate, Derek Goolsby, Al and Rachel McCall, Katie and Bristol Archer, MacKenzie Poole, and Reese Poole.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, July 26, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with Bobby Poole, Jeffrey Poole, Al McCall, Tom McCall, Derek Thomason, and Tanner Moore honored as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
