John Kimble Coggins

John Kimble Coggins, long-time resident of Elberton, passed away at Athens Regional Medical Center on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the age of 84. Mr. Coggins was born on September 23, 1928, in Atlanta, son of the late Burton Franklin Coggins, Sr. and Lollie Kimble Coggins. He graduated from The Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, attended The University of Georgia, and served two years in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Coggins Industries and was the former owner of The Granite City Motel. He was a faithful member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carole Smith Coggins; children, John Kimble Coggins, Jr. and his wife Kathrine, Mark Hunter Coggins, Richard Scott Coggins and his wife Cindy, Carole Kelle Coggins, Christian Smith Coggins and his wife Laurie; grandchildren, Maggie Venable, Andrew Coggins and Christian Coggins, Jr; brother-in-law, John M. DeBorde, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Mr. Coggins is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, B. Frank Coggins, Jr. and Anne Coggins DeBorde; and his grandson, John Kimble Coggins, III. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 24, at Forest Hills Memorial Park with Father John Keeler and Father Herschel Atkinson officiating. Family will receive visitors at Berry Funeral Home from 10:00-10:45 am.
