Mr. Johnny ‘Ray’ Wilson, 74, of Cherokee Road, Elberton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at his residence.

Ray was born in Wilkes County on July 3, 1947, son of Lucy Jane Algood Richards of Thomson and the late John Henry Wilson. He was a mechanic having retired from Rocky River Plant after 38 years of service, and was a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church. Affectionately known as “Papa” to his family, he loved NASCAR racing, horses, playing cards, and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Bell Wilson of Elberton; children: Stacey Lynn Rayle and Heath, Karen Renee Ray and Darren, Joni Lee Wilson and Andy, Susan Raye Wilson, John Robert Wilson, and Jeremy Lee Bowman, all of Elberton; grandchildren: Russell Keith Lutz, Jr., Wyatt Matthew Rayle, Jordan Lee Wilson, John Russell Wilson, Macalin Raye Mullins and Trent, Charles Gage Bryan Wilson, Gabriel Colton Lee Payton, and Christian Lee Bowman, all of Elberton; sister, Barbara Wilson Scott of Laurens, SC; step-father, Kent Richards of Thomson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his son, Joshua Lee Bowman; granddaughter, Brayleigh Bella Rae Wilson; brothers: Charles Lee Wilson and Robert Henry “Buddy” Wilson; and step-father, D.B. Worley, Jr.

The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home on Thursday, February 17, from 6:00-8:00p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Mallorysville Baptist Church Cemetery.
