Karen Flowers Phillips

Lynda ‘Karen’ Flowers Phillips, 70, of Elberton, GA, former longtime resident of Palm Bay, FL, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born in Elberton, GA on February 20, 1949, daughter of the late Frank Robinson “Bud” Flowers, Jr. and Ramona Geraldine Spence Flowers Moon Gulley, who preceded her in death. Karen graduated from Elbert County High School in 1967. She remained friends with many of her classmates and made friends everywhere she went, many of which developed into lifelong relationships.

Karen spent her career working in Human Resources with Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, FL, from which she retired as Human Resources Director after 32 years of service. She was a former member of the Palm Bay Elks Lodge 2766 and the Harris Retirement Group, of which she served as president. Karen was a member of the Elberton Elks Lodge 1100, the Cateechee Golf Club of Hartwell, and the Deep Creek Baptist Church.

Her life was filled with an abundance of love, joy, and laughter as she dedicated her time and energy to loving and supporting her family. It was her personal goal to ensure that everyone with which she came in contact felt unconditional love, and we are eternally grateful for this special gift. Karen touched the hearts of many along her life’s journey, and was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-love, Christopher Barrett Phillips and Marie of Milton, GA, both of whom she was very proud; her husband, Curtis Phillips of Palm Bay, FL, who was her high school sweetheart and life long love; her grandchildren: Taylor Marie Phillips and Jax Christopher Phillips, who were both the apple of her eye; her sister, Eileen and Jimmy Bowen of Elberton, GA; two special nieces: Mona Lunsford of Dewy Rose, GA and Robin Warren of Bowman, GA, both of whom she loved as daughters; special “sister”, Binki and Franck Kaiser of Melbourne, FL; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to name.

She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers: Phillip ‘Curtis’ Flowers and Frank Robinson “Robby” Flowers, III; and nephew, Clint Bowen.

The Memorial Service celebrating Karen's life will be held on Saturday, December 28, at 2 o'clock from the sanctuary of Deep Creek Baptist Church, 2335 Deep Creek Road, Dewy Rose, GA 30634. A reception will follow the service in the church’s activity building, during which time the family will greet friends.

To match Karen’s colorful personality and to adequately celebrate her life, it is suggested those attending wear cheerful colors, and absolutely no black.

A private burial will precede the service in Elberton's Historic Elmhurst Cemetery with Danny Hunger, Jared Lunsford, Aaron Warren, Tanner Moore, Tim Adams, Paul Bowen, Shelvick Nelson, and Franck Kaiser honored to serve as pallbearers.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Deep Creek Baptist Church, 2335 Deep Creek Road, Dewy Rose, GA 30634.
