L.C. Turman

Mr. L.C. Turman, 87, of Parkman Road, Elberton, husband of 61 years to the late Jean Patterson Turman, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Mr. Turman was born in Elbert County on December 3, 1928, the last child of the late Robert Clarence Turman and Mary Bell Thomas Turman. He was a retired stone polisher from the granite industry and a former employee of Claude Ray Ford Sales. He was a member of Elberton Church of God, a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War, and a Purple Heart recipient. “Poppy”, as he was lovingly known to his family, was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved cars, guitars, and bluegrass music.

Surviving are his daughter, Wanda and Lee Black of Elberton; grandsons: Brandon and Len Black and Wesley and Mindy Black, all of Elberton; great-grandchildren: Brett, Hunter, Leannda, Walker, Cole-Jett, and Kayleigh; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Inez Vaughn, Ralph, Clifford, Roy, Paul, T.B., and Robert Turman.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, September 27, at 4 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Olds and Mr. Roy Lee Pless officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at the residence of Wanda and Lee Black, Pine Lake Drive, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 3:00-3:45p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
