Lori Johnson Mayhue

January 4, 1966 — September 4, 2021

Lori Johnson Mayhue

Mrs. Lori “Lucy” Johnson Mayhue, 55, of Jaudon Road, Elberton, wife of 33 years to William Lee Mayhue, entered into rest on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Lori Ramona Johnson was born in Athens on January 4, 1966, daughter of the late David Payton “Big Dave” Johnson and Frances Moina “Mo” Mathews Johnson. She was a member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church, Beta Sigma Phi, Pulliam-Burton VFW Post 5456 Auxiliary, and Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club.

She was a 1984 graduate of Elbert County High School and received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s degree in special education, both from Brenau University. Her specialist’s degree in special education was obtained at Piedmont College. Lori devoted twenty eight years of her life to the special needs children of Georgia. She taught two years in Gwinnett County before coming home to Elbert County and teaching twenty six years, retiring from Elbert County Comprehensive High School.

Lori’s love of Georgia football was inherited from her parents, and many happy hours were spent tailgating and “between the hedges” at Sanford Stadium. She enjoyed riding motorcycles and the boat; however, her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren. She absolutely loved being their Lucy. She was passionate about helping others and serving the Veterans of Elbert County.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Willie, include her son and daugher-in-law, Matthew and Haylee Mayhue; grandchildren: Ella and Eli Mayhue; and brother, David and Kurt Johnson of Elberton and Salem, OR; and her extended family: Tim and Kim Bray, Dawn and Greg Noggle and family, Todd and Shandon McAlarny, Cindy and Terry Pless, Jessie Kidd, Brittany and Mike Rose, Susan and Clay Booth, Michael Miller, Tevin Fleming, Marques Dye, and the late Tyshon Dye.

Memorial services celebrating Lori’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 7, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Martin officiating.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home on Monday, September 6, from 6PM to 8PM.

Lori requested everyone attending to either wear, red, black, or purple.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Friends Helping Friends, 1027 Micliff Drive, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
