MSgt (Ret.) James "Jimmy" C. Sorrells, 79, of 2275 Colonel Dixon Road, Elbeton, Georgia husband of Edna Peppers Sorrells passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia. Born May 13, 1934 in Elberton, Georgia to the late James Roy Sorrells and Marjorie Estelle Allgood Sorrells Craft. He was a member of Fortsonia Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and taught Sunday School, a member of Giedons International. Jimmy was a U.S. Air Force veteran where he earned the rank of Master Sergeant and retired after 22 years of service in 1974, as well as retiring from the Elbert County School System where he worked in the Maintenance Department and drove a school bus. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of the home Edna Peppers Sorrells; his children and their spouses Eddie and Donna Shiflet of Elberton, Georgia; Wendy and Steve Vickery of Elberton, Georgia; nephew William "Billy" Roy Sorrells ; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother William "Sonny" Sorrells. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 11AM, Monday, July 29 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Reverend Al Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Fortsonia Community Cemetery with Billy Sorrells, Hayden Sorrells, Jeff Allgood, Curtis Allgood, Kevin Madden and Steve Vickery serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar "Chan" Brown, members of Giedons International and Deacons of Fortsonia Baptist Church. The Sorrells family will be at the home and will receive friends from 10-11AM Monday, July 29 just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested please make memorials in his honor to Fortsonia Baptist Church 2616 Washington Highway Elberton, Georgia 30635.
