Marilyn Anne Wilson Summerlin

Mrs. Marilyn Anne Wilson Summerlin, 85, of Washington, formerly of Atlanta, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at her residence.

Marilyn was born on April 3, 1937 to Paul Stewart Wilson and Myrtle Olive Shellnutt Wilson in Atlanta, where she lived most of her life. After high school, she attended business school and worked in banking and retail sales. Soon thereafter she met Joe Thomas Summerlin, better known as J.T. and Jake, through family. They soon married and began to travel through J.T.'s work. After traveling, they settled in Cliftondale and had four children. In between having kids, she worked in healthcare in her early years and worked in hospice and homecare in her later years. Everyone she met either knew her as “Memaw” or “Mawmaw”, including many kids she looked after over the years. She worked until her 80s and enjoyed working with her employers and patients alike. In 2005, Marilyn and J.T. moved to Washington GA to be near their daughter Beth as they grew older. Together they enjoyed the quiet country life with their dog Buddy until the Lord called them home. Marilyn enjoyed cooking, antiquing, traveling, and being with her family. She also enjoyed her Enon Baptist Church family in Cliftondale, and in later years her Tignall Baptist Church family. Our Lord is her savior and now she's home with him.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Myrtle Wilson; husband J.T. Summerlin: and sons: Mathew Carter Summerlin, and Thomas Stewart “Tommy” Summerlin.

She is survived by her brother, Paul Wilson (Martha) of Gainesville; daughter, Beth Hodges (Benjie Hodges) of Washington; and son, Joe Summerlin (Tani Summerlin) of Concord. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Whitley Moore (Chris Moore), Benjamin Hodges, Morgan Summerlin, Kyle and Dean Avery, Emma and Jake Summerlin; and a number of nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Marilyn will be missed by her family and all of her friends that she's made over the years. The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Bristol Hospice for their kindness and compassion.

Her life will be celebrated on Sunday, November 13, at 2:00p.m. at Tignall Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
