Maris Bowman Wells

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

Mrs. Maris Bowman Wells was born on June 16, 1934, to the late George and Sallie Mae Heard Bowman. Maris received Christ at an early age and served faithfully at Pleasant Home C.M.E. Church, now New Beginning Independent Methodist Church. Maris was the Vice President of the Missionary Auxiliary, member of the Usher Board, and a faithful member of the New Beginning Methodist Choir. Maris worked at Seaboard Farms in Athens, Ga, where she retired after 31 years of service. Mrs. Well passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020

She was preceded in death by her late husband, William “Billy” Wells; her brothers: Wilbert Bowman, Johnny Howard Bowman, Willie Bowman; and her sisters: Ruby Hunt, Dora Allen, Lila Allen, Crola Rucker, and Janeaster Miller.

She leaves to cherish her sweet and loving memories: daughters, Wanda (Thomas) Allen and Juanita Cornell; granddaughters, Kisha Heard and Solaria Wells; grandson, Maurice (Reese) Maxwell; great-granddaughters, Maurissa Heard, Malaya Maxwell, Pyper Maxwell, and Arielle Reid; great-grandson, Cashton Maxwell, brother, Bobby (Helen) Bowman of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Sara June Bennett; brother-in-law, Cody Wells of Chicago, IL; god children, Charles (Marilyn) Phelps, Erica (Gregory) Leverett of Hartwell, GA, Rodney (Sonya) Geter of Union City, GA, Robert Mattox, Rod Hardman, Jessica Zanders, Jamaica Zanders, and Nykisha Geter.

Maris had a host of special nieces and nephews that she cherished and loved dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her “Golden Girls” of Elberton, Ga. She was a caring and loving person, and she never met a stranger. Maris opened her home to many, and she was well known in the community to everyone as “Aunt Maris”. From Her Special Babies: (Alexus Beamon, Akiya Bowman, Calen Gaither, Brianna Gaither, Myla Hood, Mattox Hood, Bryson and Tina Hood, Jameria Allen, Jamia Allen, Jamiya Allen, Maurissa Heard, Arielle Reid, Solaria Wells, Brianquavius Gaither, Jessica Zanders, Kisha Heard, Jamaica Zanders, and a host of others. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, December 15, at 1 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Pinetown Cemetery. Social distancing will be observed and face masks are requested by the family.

Mrs. Wells will lie in state at Berry Funeral Home from 12:00-5:00p.m. on Monday, December 14, for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.
