Mary Opal Adams

Mary Opal “Nana” Daniel Adams died peacefully at the home of her sister, Juanita Marsh, after an extended illness. Opal was the daughter of E. R. “Bud” and Jessie Stratton Daniel and the wife of Hubert Teasley Adams, all who predecease her. Opal was born and raised in Elberton, Georgia. She and Hubert, her husband of fifty five years moved to Atlanta in the early forties. She worked for thirty seven years at Rich's department store and later they moved back to Elberton upon retirement. Opal and Hubert were the parents of three children, James Daniel, Mary Eleanor, and Iris Elaine, all of whom died in infancy. Because of her strong faith in God; first developed in the Harmony Baptist Church she attended with her parents, she and Hubert were able to survive the death of her three babies. That strong faith continued throughout her life. She was a faithful member of the Lakewood Methodist Church in Atlanta and later First Methodist Church of Elberton, Georgia. While she had no children grow to adulthood, she cherished her brothers and sisters and their children and helped each of them throughout her life. She is predeceased by her brothers, Everett and Cecil, and survived by her sisters, Juanita and Peggy and her brothers, Charles and Marshall “Buddy”, as well as many nephews and nieces. During the last years of her life, she was lovingly cared for by her sister, Juanita and her dear care givers, Linda, Monica, and Minnie. The family will receive visitors at Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, Georgia on Monday, July 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 and the services will be held at Berry Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Southwest Christian Care, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, Georgia 30291 or the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 South Columbia Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30030.
