Mattie Alelia Howard Davis, 91, of 1050 Petersburg Road, Elberton, widow of the late Deal Thomas Davis, passed away Saturday evening, January 28, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. Mrs. Davis was born in Elbert County, June 15, 1920, to the late William David Howard, Sr. and Lucy Pierce Howard Vaughn. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. Left to cherish her memories are her children and their spouses, Doyle Robert, Sr. and Iris Bobo Davis of Elberton and Amelia and Henry Horne of Calhoun Falls, SC; three grandchildren, Bobby and Crystal Davis, Dawn and Bryan Collins, and Candice Leigh Horne; three great-grandchildren, Isaac T. Davis, Gavin E. Davis, and Brooke B. Collins; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by two infant sons, Melvin Thomas Davis and Willie Howard Davis; and two brothers, Amos Howard, Willie D. Howard. Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 3PM Thursday, February 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with family and friends officiating. It was Mattie's request to be cremated and inurnment will be at a later date. The Davis family is at the home of Doyle and Iris Davis, 2093 Athens Highway, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-3PM Thursday, just prior to the service.
