Norris Doyle Mattox

Norris Doyle Mattox, 74, of 1487 Bakers Ferry Road, Elberton, husband of Mildred Dean Mattox, finished his course in faith on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Mattox was born in Elbert County, January 17, 1939, to the late Jep Jones Mattox, Sr. and Lessie Scarborough Mattox. Norris was employed by B&L Trucking Company as truck driver and was a former manager of Dixie Oil Station. He was a member and past deacon of Northside Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 51 years, Mildred Dean Mattox; daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Donnie Haston of Elberton; two granddaughters and their husbands, Cindy and Paul Paramore and Christy and Josh Jones, all of Elberton; three great-grandchildren, Grady Jones, Haley Jones, and Olivia Paramore; special sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Smith, wife of the late Joe Smith and Ann Roukaski; special nieces and nephews, Randy and Peggy Smith, Douglas Mattox, Randy Mattox, Cathy and Keith Holloman, Scott Smith, Dianne Smith, Chip Gowder, Susan, and Sherry; and lifelong friend, Barbara Black Winn, wife of the late Joe T. Winn. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Jep J. Mattox, Jr. and John C. Mattox. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. David McConnell and the Rev. Paul Paramore officiating. Music will be provided by Diane Moss and Bruce Herring. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Sonny Peevy officiating. Pallbearers will include Randy Smith, Bill Berzett, Nick Forrester, Blaine Worley, Mike Smith, and Jim Stovall. The Mattox family is at the home of Donnie & Harriet Haston, 1493 Bakers Ferry Road, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00PM Friday evening. The family respectfully requests flowers be omitted. Memorials may be made in his honor to Northside Baptist Church Sanctuary Fund, 384 North Oliver Street, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
