Ola Blackwell Heard

Ola Blackwell was born on March 21, 1925, in Elberton, Georgia to the late Joe Blackwell and Mary Rucker Blackwell. She was the youngest of the eleven children from this union. Early on Sunday morning, September 6, 2020, God sent an angel to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital to carry his servant home.

She was united in marriage to the late Johnny Heard. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother. At an early Ola accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and joined Carlton Grove Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until declining health.

Ola had a big heart and unforgettable smile. She loved her family and was committed to being a provider and role model. She had a warm spirit that touched everyone who crossed her path; she knew no stranger.
Being a homemaker, Ola enjoyed cooking, growing flowers, sewing and making quilts. She was most famous for making her delicious peach pies and southern biscuits for family and friends. Ola cherished spending time with her grands and great-grands who she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mary Rucker Blackwell; her husband, Johnny Heard; her first grandson, Baby Temarcus Heard; and her ten siblings.

Ola leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Stanley Heard; step-daughter, Patricia and Travis Statom; grandchildren: Quasher Heard, Ashley Heard, Stantavis Heard; great-grandchildren: DyQuavion Bryant, Arihanna Alston, Michael Alston, III, Mikerrious Alston, and Mikese Alston; step-grandson, Joshua Mahoney; step-great-grandson, Tyler Mahoney; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, September 13, at 2 o'clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Carlton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the residence of Stanley and Mary Ann Heard, 1028 Brown Brothers Road in Elberton.
