Porter Vernon Fowler, Sr., 94, of Elberton, GA, died Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center in Elberton, GA.
A native of Madison, County, NC, he was the son of the late Elizabeth “Tiny” Hyder Fowler and Vernon Fowler. Porter is also preceded in death by two wives, Edith Ledford and Harriett Garland; five sisters, Harriett Worley, Lettie May Bagwell, Missby Whiteside, Fairley Harris, and Beverly Fowler; and five brothers, Eugene, D.J., Crisswell, Steve, and George Fowler.
Having lived most of his life in Fletcher, NC, he was a self employed carpenter and house builder. Porter was a member of Hooper’s Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Sue Burchfield and her husband Wayne of Calabash, NC; a son Porter Fowler, Jr. and his wife Linda of Elberton, GA; two brothers, Stan and Todd Fowler; three grandchildren, Eddie Fowler, Jennifer Swann and Tony Calton; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Hooper’s Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Youngblood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum.
